Alaska Postnuptial Agreement: What Is It?

An Alaska Postnuptial Agreement is a legal document that is signed by a married couple once they are already married - not prior to the wedding. The purpose of the document is to clearly lay out the conditions and terms that concern any assets, such as properties, if one of the partners dies, or if there is a divorce.

By signing this contract, the fate of any assets will already be determined which makes the court case (in the case of a divorce) much simpler and faster. The judge will already be well aware of what to delegate and how to delegate it. In accordance with local state laws in Alaska, both of the spouses should sign the Postnuptial Agreement and after this is done, the agreement will be considered as a genuine contract.

Before drafting and signing the agreement, we would recommend that both spouses sit down together and discuss all of the options. Once the agreement is signed it will be extremely difficult to make changes to this document, particularly if only one of the parties has had a change of heart.
