How to Evaluate a Class?

Here are several tips the student may use when preparing a Class Evaluation Form:

  1. In case you believe the class was not successful and you want to criticize the work of the teacher or the material you studied or continue to study, it may be better for you to submit an anonymous evaluation . Try to find out whether a response that does not contain your name can be accepted and taken into account.

  2. Make the assessment simple and short - it is likely the form will not contain too many questions where you are supposed to provide a long answer otherwise not many people would fill out the form voluntarily. You may have to deal with simple "yes" or "no" questions, a rating system that lets students assign points or scores to different matters, or more nuanced scales with words like "excellent", "good", and "poor" - these are the most common ways to find out what the student thinks about a particular class.

  3. Usually, a feedback form of this kind includes the following Class Evaluation questions:

    • Was the teacher familiar with the material and did they have sufficient knowledge of the issues discussed in class?
    • Did the teacher show genuine interest to help students and respond to their questions?
    • Was the feedback of the teacher valuable and meaningful to let students improve their performance?
    • Did the assignments, tests, manuals, and study guides increase the knowledge of the student or there was no progress during the semester or academic year?
    • Were the effort of the teacher and the contents of the course sufficient to encourage the student to pursue the knowledge further?
    • Would you advise other students to take this class?
    • Was the course in question useful for your degree, academic and professional future?
  4. Use the opportunity to offer your opinion with comments and remarks - you may compare the teachers, point out the flaws of the class, and mention examples and experiences that let the teacher and the administration of the institution understand if anything was wrong. Remember to remain respectful and polite.
