A Maine Prenuptial Agreement is a document that a pair can sign before getting married that outlines their rights under the law during the time that the spouses are in union, when going through a divorce, and after a spouse passes away. The majority of prenuptial agreement rights relate to managing finances and estates.
Alternate Names:
According to local state statutes, if the contract is changed within eighteenth months of the spouses becoming the parents to children, prenuptial agreements are null and void. However, an agreement may also be declared void if it is found to have been unfair or that a partner was improperly coerced into signing it. A prenuptial agreement can only be changed or canceled in writing and with the consent of both parties.
All participants should sign the agreement for it to be deemed legal. If both partners fail to do this or fail to be open about their possessions this could mean that the agreement will not have any legal value and as a result, will not be accepted in court.
