Attaching a New Jersey Self-Proving Affidavit Form to a will created by a person has a number of advantages. The first being that it will confirm the authenticity of the will by helping to validate the fact that the will was indeed drafted and signed freely, not against the person’s will and that all state laws in New Jersey were carefully followed. Making this form will also reduce the time of the probate process as the witnesses will not need to be called to the court.
But do remember that a New Jersey Self-Proving Affidavit should also be signed by witnesses. Like most other states, in New Jersey there is a requirement to have two witnesses when the creator of the will signs the will. This also needs to be done in front of a notary public for them to complete the notarization process. We would suggest downloading a template to get yourself familiar with the requirements of the document.
