An Iowa Non-Compete Agreement prevents company secrets from being exposed to the public and in particular, to fellow competitors. It is usually signed by a company and an employee which establishes certain information to be a company secret, meaning that the employee has no right to disclose this information to any other party, even after their employment with the company finishes. The exact time period for which the agreement is effective along with the exact information that should be kept secret should be highly detailed in the agreement.
This prevents the employee from leaving their job to work at a rival company and sharing information and ideas that were developed in secret by their previous employer. Even though there are no laws to govern this in Iowa, this is not to say that it cannot be used in court. To make sure that all information you include is correct and fair you should start with an Iowa Non-Compete Agreement Template.
