What Is an Overtime Sign Up Sheet?

Anybody working overtime will want to make sure that they get paid for their extra hours and rightly so, particularly because there is usually an increased rate for working overtime. The most effective way to keep a record of this is to introduce an Overtime Sign Up Sheet in the workplace. This way, any time an employee works more than the permitted contracted hours, they can record this in the Overtime Sign Up Sheet which the employer will look at before calculating salaries.

The last thing an employee wants to do is run around and chase up incorrectly calculated hours or for an employer to try and figure out who worked some extra hours. This is solely the responsibility of the employee to make a record of this. Once this information is recorded, it is down to the employer (or the individual in charge of payments) to make sure that the employee gets paid for their overtime.

An Overtime Sign Up Sheet will usually provide information about the company and request the following information from the employee:

  • The date that the employee worked overtime;
  • The time their shift started;
  • The time their shift ended;
  • The total hours worked (without taking into account overtime);
  • The specific hours of overtime worked.
