Follow these steps to prepare a Church Membership Resignation Letter:
- Do not make a rush decision composing and sending a letter immediately after choosing to leave the church . Make sure you have considered all advantages and disadvantages of your current and future position. Consider talking to someone you can confide in before you start drafting a message.
- Mention the name of the church, introduce yourself, and confirm your intention to terminate your church membership right away . The reason may vary - maybe, you are moving and you can no longer attend any events and ceremonies in your local church or you believe the church no longer upholds principles and values you deem the most important.
- Depending on your relationship with the church leader and your personal wishes, you can provide a reason for your decision . If your choice was not influenced by anyone else, do not blame the church in question for your determination to leave. How to Write a Resignation Letter for Church Membership?

- Opt for a formal and concise letter of one or two pages . You should share your news in a polite tone - even if you have had disagreements with church leaders or other members of your local community, there is no need to aggravate the situation, leave the church gracefully.
- Consider using a professional font - Arial, Times New Roman, or Georgia. A 10- or 12-point font size is a good choice for any formal correspondence . Since this is a simple and brief notification, it will only have several paragraphs where you explain your decision and wish the religious congregation all the best in the future, so you will not need to highlight your main points or use bullets to make the message easy to understand.
- Include a greeting and closing . Greet your pastor or another church leader - the representative in charge of correspondence - in your opening paragraph.
