A Maine Grant Deed is a legal document that is used in this state to transfer ownership of real property, which must be acknowledged by the grantor (or by the person executing the deed or their attorney) before a notary public or another appointed individual listed in the Maine Revised Statutes (33-203). If the grantor is transferring ownership to two or more individuals, it creates estates in common unless otherwise specified in the grant deed (33-159). The grant deed shall be recorded in the county where the real estate is located. In situations, when real estate is located in more than one county the grant deed should be recorded in all of them (33-201). A Maine Grant Deed shall include a proper description of the property it conveys, and information about the source from which the grantor has obtained their title of ownership (33-201-A).
