What Is a Tenant Rejection Letter?
A Tenant Rejection Letter is a document that must be completed by a landlord and provided to an applicant interested in renting a residential rental unit. This letter must be submitted to a prospective tenant who does not meet the requirements of the landlord as this document informs the individual about the rejection of their rental application.

A landlord may reject an application if it was incomplete, the employment of this person could not be verified, or they have an unsatisfactory payment history. A Tenant Application Rejection Letter must be filled in as follows:
- You should enter a completion date and the name of the applicant who has submitted a rental application. Provide details about the property, including its location, the monthly rent amount, the security deposit amount, and lease term;
- Thank this individual for submitting their rental application to you. Inform them that the application has been rejected and specify the reason for this decision;
- Indicate that the application has been denied based on a Consumer Reporting Agency report. Specify that the applicant can make a written request under the Fair Credit Reporting Act within 60 days from the receipt of this notice, to obtain a free report from the Agency. Provide contact details of this organization;
- If the application has been denied based on information obtained from other sources, indicate that the applicant can make a written request within 60 days from the receipt of this notice regarding the nature of this information;
- Specify that the applicant has a right to dispute their credit report based on its inaccuracy or incompleteness. Indicate that this individual may have other rights under Consumer Protection Law;
- The landlord must sign the form.
