The Probate Application Form has two variants. The one provided below is supposed to be used by individuals named in the will as executors. The second one - Form PA1P, Probate Application (The Person Left a Will) - For Probate Practitioners Only - is designed for legal professionals representing the executors. The applications have several differences in content and in the number of pages.
The grant of probate validates the legal right of the individual to run the estate. Will by post is a scheme provided by the postal service that allows individuals to make a will without visiting a bank or a solicitor's office. To learn more about it they can visit websites of various will services or contact their local post office.
The PA1 Form is divided into several sections, each of which is dedicated to a certain topic. All of them are accompanied by notes (on the right side of pages) that are supposed to help individuals who are using the form. If the individual is struggling with filling it out, they can call Probate Helpline (which number is stated in the notes) or seek legal advice.
After an individual has filled out Probate Form PA1 they are supposed to gather the appropriate documents and attach them to the application. Then the whole package is supposed to be sent to the United Kingdom HM Courts & Tribunals Service Probate's address which can be found on the official website of the government of the United Kingdom. There they can also find information about how to apply online, information about the fees that must be paid, and other details.
Even if the individual is applying online, they still must send the applicable documents to the authorities. According to law, all wills become public documents (when the probate is granted) and must be kept by the United Kingdom HM Courts & Tribunals Service.
