An Affidavit of Support is a document that must be completed by a person who wants to sponsor their relative. By signing this document, a sponsor agrees to use their financial resources to support this person and guarantees financial responsibility regarding them. For example, a Support Affidavit can be useful for a parent whose child is going to study at a U.S. university, as this document will serve as proof that financial support will be provided to the student.

If the earnings of the sponsor are insufficient to provide financial assistance to their relative they can add a joint sponsor who can provide part of the financial support. In this case, it is used as an Affidavit of Support joint sponsor. If a sponsor wants to support an intending immigrant or visa applicant, they should fill out a corresponding Affidavit of Support Form (USCIS Form I-134), provided by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
An Affidavit of Support usually contains the following:
This document must be signed and sealed by a notary.
If the sponsor presented an Affidavit of Support and declared their consent to provide financial assistance to the intending immigrant, they can submit a withdrawal before the issuance of an immigrant visa to this person. If the immigrant has already obtained a visa and the sponsor wants to withdraw from their obligation, it is only possible if the individual who has filed the visa petition withdrew it in writing. If the financial commitment has been made to the student, it is not possible to revoke it. The failure to provide this support may lead to the student's exclusion.
