What Is an Eagle Scout Letter of Ambition?
An Eagle Scout Letter of Ambition is a document that can be used by individuals who want to apply for the rank of Eagle Scout. The purpose of the document is to tell the Board of Review about the candidate's life purpose, goals, and position they hold outside scouting.
Individuals aged 11 to 18 can apply to become a part of the Boy Scouts of America. To participate in it, the candidates must follow the principles presented in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Eagle Scout is the highest rank of the program and an individual can apply for it with the Eagle Scout Rank Application and other documents that should be attached to it, including the Eagle Scout Ambition Letter and Eagle Scout Letter of Recommendation. The Board of Review will make their decision on whether the individual is worth the rank by evaluating the content of the documents.

How to Write an Eagle Scout Letter of Ambition?
Writing a letter of ambition for an eagle scout can be overwhelming, considering the fact that it can greatly influence the decision of the Board of Review. Nevertheless, the candidate should focus on describing their short term and long term goals within two or three pages. This way the letter will be thorough enough, yet not overloaded with details. A common Eagle Scout Ambition Letter can include different types of information, such as:
-
Short-Term Goals. Candidates can use this part of the letter to tell the Board what they do outside scouting and what the goals they plan on achieving in their nearest future are. This paragraph should give the Board a sense of who the candidate is and what they like to do.
-
Ambitions. In this section, the candidate can expand and say more about their life purpose. They can designate how they would like to spend their life, what they want to do, and who they want to be. Candidates can indicate what guides them in their life and what influenced them in choosing their life goals.
-
Positions. Here the candidate can state the leadership positions that they have. It can be any position the candidate had at school, at church, in a summer camp. If nothing comes up then the candidate can describe times when they acted beyond their responsibilities to help others, or just did more than was expected from them.
-
Awards and Honors. This part of the letter can include information about the prizes that the candidate has received during different competitions. It can be an award they won at different olympiads, science fairs, math competitions, spelling contests, etc. In addition to this, they can indicate honors received from volunteer organizations for their contributions, a newspaper article mentioning their help to the community, or pretty much anything that made them feel honored.
