The Tax Exempt Form for Indian Status consists of several parts, namely:
-
Introduction. In the beginning, the CRA provides employees with different recommendations and definitions. Therefore, the form should be completed by the employer in the presence of the employee.
-
Employee Identification. Here, the employer must designate the employee's name, social insurance number, and residential address.
-
Indian Status. Employers can use this part of the tax-exempt form to describe the Indian status of the employee. It includes questions about whether the employee is an Indian as described in the Indian Act, did they obtain this status before 2011, and other questions.
-
Type of Exemption. This section contains statements with boxes that the employer is supposed to check. By checking them, the employer must state whether their employee performs their work duties on (or off) the territory of the reserve, whether they reside on a reserve, and other circumstances.
-
Employee Certification. In this part of the document, the employee must indicate that the information they presented in the form is true and correct. They must also sign and date the document.
-
Instructions. Here, the employee can find information about how to complete the form, where to file it after it was completed, and other guidelines.
-
Employment-related Income. Lastly, the employee is provided with information about other types of income that will be exempt from taxable income.
