How to Get a Title with a Bill of Sale in Oklahoma?
Registering and titling your car is one of the most important steps in the process of responsible and legal vehicle ownership. In Oklahoma, you have thirty days from the date of the purchase to register your car and obtain a new title, and you are required to do that before driving it. Submit the following documentation in person to the Motor Vehicle Division of the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC):
- Bill of Sale or Form 722-1, Declaration of Vehicle Purchase Price. The latter document must be notarized;
- Form 701-6, Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title, signed in the presence of a notary public;
- Proof of liability insurance;
- Three valid forms of ID;
- Old title transferred to you by the ex-owner and current registration documentation;
- Form 729, Odometer Disclosure Statement, if a vehicle is nine years old or newer and the certificate of title does not contain the odometer disclosure.
When you register your car, you have to pay a fee for the first year of registration, and a title fee. Additionally, you must pay an excise tax, based on the purchase price, at the time of issuance of the new Oklahoma title. It is required to renew vehicle registration every year. The first time you register your car, it must be done in person, and after that, every annual registration renewal can be done in person, online, or via mail.
