What Is a Delaware Boat Bill of Sale?

The Delaware Boat Bill of Sale is a document filled out during watercraft transfer. It is equally important for both the seller and the buyer.   2. The same set of information about the buyer;
  3. The detailed description of the boat. The section should include the hull identification number, make, model, color, year of the boat, and the odometer readings in hours. Include the previous registration number and title number if applicable;
  4. If the boat is sold with an outboard motor or a trailer, indicate it in the bill of sale and add the sections containing the appropriate description of them;

  6. The signatures of both the buyer and the seller.

The sections can be arranged any way you like.

If you sell a boat in Delaware, you must notify the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife within 15 days after your vessel was sold. If you sell a used boat, you must provide the buyer with two main documents:

  • Photocopy of your most recent Certificate of Documentation;
  • Notarized bill of sale containing the detailed description of the transferred boat.

If you sell a new boat, give the manufacturer's original certificate of origin. Remember that all documents you provide must contain the boat hull identification number.

The buyer will need these documents to apply for the vessel registration card required for all motorboats used in Delaware waters. A notarized form will not be required only if you and the buyer appear for boat registration in person and with picture IDs.
