What Is a Virginia Bill of Sale?

A Virginia Bill of Sale is a legal document used to formalize a legitimate sale or transfer of personal property from one party to another. The main purpose of this document is to prove that ownership was transferred from the seller to the buyer.   3. The state of Virginia does not provide any official form you can fill out to detail the fact of your watercraft sale transaction. A basic Virginia Boat Bill of Sale template is acceptable, as long as it contains all the necessary information.
  4. As a government-issued form that you can file during the sale of the firearm is not available in Virginia, you can complete and sign a generic Firearm Bill of Sale listing the specifications of the transaction when selling or buying guns.

Virginia Bill of Sale Requirements

The Bill of Sale in Virginia must contain the personal details and contact information of the seller and the purchaser, the date and location of the deal, a description of the personal items being sold, the price of the items, the method and terms of payment and the signatures of the parties. It is recommended that both the seller and the buyer keep a copy of the form.

For identifying the item, the form should include the specific information of the property as a serial number or any other data that will help to recognize the item. The place and date of delivery, valid warranty, and other conditions can be also included in the document if needed.
