How to Make a Place Card?
Follow these steps to prepare a Place Setting Card:
-
Make sure you have a proper seating plan in place - you should prepare a visualization or drawing that shows where people will sit during the event in question.
-
Consider creating escort cards in addition to Place Cards - escort cards are usually located at the entrance and state the table number for every guest or group of guests. You should make sure the escort cards, Place Setting Cards, and Place Card Holders look similar and follow the theme of the event - for instance, all the cards can contain the same pattern, font, or handwriting, and do not forget about the color coordination. A Place Card Holder can be custom-ordered or you may purchase a set of simple holders to use later for future parties and gatherings.
-
When it comes to the size of a Place Card, typically it does not exceed the dimensions of a regular business card - 5.5 x 8.5 cm. Whether you are going to design and print the cards yourself or go to a print shop, it will be easier to find a perfect template or explain to the other person what exactly you are looking for. Moreover, the attendees will be able to keep the small card after the event as a memento.
-
If there are many couples and families at your gathering which is traditional for any family event, especially a wedding, it may be a good idea to put their names on one card . Not only it will be beneficial for the family that will stay close together and watch their children, but it will also save you money lowering the total cost you spend on the cards.
-
Do not add unnecessary details to the Place Setting Card - the full name of the guest should be enough. If you prefer to add "Mr", "Mrs", "Dr", and other titles, make sure it is appropriate for the event and the size of the card permits it. You may use shortened versions of names or nicknames if the event is informal or there are many children present; yet, it is your duty to ensure there is no confusion especially if many attendees have the same name. To avoid the mix-up, every card should also indicate the table number - print or write it down in small font.
